Catwoman II, DC Comics

Fan art painted on Procreate, Apple Pencil, iPad Pro.
This piece is inspired by the song by Courtney Love, “Mono”

Black Cat, Marvel Comics

Did this piece of Felicia Hardy, Black Cat from Marvel’s Spider-Man series, as a sort of companion piece to my earlier Catwoman piece.

As I was finishing up, it occurred to me how impractical it is to have all these dangling furs, especially for a cat burglar!

Catwoman, DC Comics

I realised that I have portrayed Selina Kyle in forms of traditional media from wall painting to colour pencils but never in digital media before!

This piece was done to Zedd’s “Clarity” playing in my head. I had initially leaned towards to more bright and flashy piece… minimal use of black… but ended up, well, here.

Domino

Spiral

Come at me 2023! Let’s do like Mystique & gang; and join them in loading up for this year, kickin’ down doors and enter with guns a blazin’!

For the longest time, I have disliked Elektra Natchios. I just find her character derivative and not very interesting. However, in recent days, I have re-discovered the Frank Miller’s run of Daredevil (Death of Elektra), and from there became a slippery slope into…. Sin City

One of the most anatomically challenging characters to tackle, Spiral, from the X-Men series. She time travels, teleports, uses magic, she does it all! Took a really long time puzzling out this piece. The idea is that each of the arms pair one from the left side and one from right side, no matter the combination, will make sense as a pose. And what better way to composite her if not…. The Fibonacci Spiral? The Spiral piece is done with the tune of Do As Infinity’s “Raven”; incidentally the soundtrack to the Junji Ito based movie, “Uzumaki”. Also know as…. Spiral.

Domino is really a multi-dimensional character and I have meaning to do a piece on here ever since I saw that trading card way back in ’92. Never really got that whole “luck as a superpower” thing, but I do love the ‘guns for hire’ angle.

The Goblin Queen

A long time ago, I wrote to an artist requesting to commission seven drawings. He never wrote back. In my wish list there was three of them that included the three queens of the X-Men. I came across that list a few weeks back tidying up my PC. I then decided to commission myself. Hahahaha!

On Emma Frost, the White Queen: I’ve had requests for the longest time to paint Emma. The conundrum was always which version of her to use. Decided to paint her in what I think is her classic look of White Queen of the Hellfire Club…. An all out villain as opposed to the do-gooder nowadays!

On Jean Grey, the Black Queen: The atmosphere of the painting is inspired one night, when I heard the music of 2Cellos “Now We Are Free”. Though I know she isn't exactly a popular hot property character nowadays to paint, I am just so enamored with her Victorian hairstyle look!

On Madelyne Pryor, the Goblin Queen: Minor adjustments has been made to this piece with the inclusion of a little background work to better fit in with the other two newer pieces. This piece remains one of my more popular works to date!

Blood Widow #1, My First Official Published Comic Book Cover!

Picture

If I was to go back 30 years and tell my 14 year-old self that one day, an artwork done by me would grace the cover of one of those bad-girls comic book (it's the early 90's after all) on the shelf... I think my head would explode.

But here we are.

It is October 2023, and the good guys at Absolute Comics Group has allowed me to attempt an interpretation of Blood Widow, one of the spin-off characters from their mainline White Widow!

It truly is an unbelievable and surreal experience!

Geeks United Event

Black Adam, as portrait by Dwayne Johnson. I think never has The Rock's "The People's Champion" ring more truly! Haha, just looking at Rotten Tomatoes' ratings, it seems the movie rates very highly with the audiences but rather low with critics. I do hope the overall box offices works out enough for a sequel (or at least a JSA ensemble cast film) to be made though!

Meanwhile, a big THANK YOU to the entourage of Geeks United for coming out for a meet & greet on a Sunday! Hope I was able to make your anniversary tour just that much more memorable!

Spotlight Pieces

Picture
Vasquez from Aliens
Vasquez from the movie Aliens (1986) in a deadly game of hide and seek. I have always loved the strength of the character portrayed. I'm sure she is a fan favorite too, but so little material is available about her! Initially for this piece, I spent lot of time painting the alien Xenomorph, only to realize later that the less shown of it, the stronger the atmosphere of the piece is. So ended up hiding hours of painstaking work!
The piece is done on Procreate,  Apple Pencil, iPad Pro.

Picture
Elizabeth Olson as Scarlet Witch , Marvel Cinematic Universe
Fan Art of Elizabeth Olson as Scarlet Witch aka Wanda Maximoff. Elizabeth, as the actress for this role, really grows on you throughout her appearance in the MCU!

Done on Procreate, Apple Pencil, iPad Pro.

Picture
Rogue, X-Men
Classic Rogue of the X-Men! Based on the costume I have always loved from the 90's. Shown here after taking the head  of a Sentinel. When was doing this piece, the tune of "Take My Breath Away" by Berlin was playing in my head.

Done on Procreate, Apple Pencil, iPad Pro.

Baroness of Cobra from the G.I Joe Series
This is actually a show reel piece. Exemplifying: Implied Concept, Perspective, Chrome Material, Shiny Black Metal Armor, Leather, Sheets Folds, Shadows, Refracted Light. I have long wanted to do a Baroness piece, but was bored by the prospect of doing a character clad neck to toe in black armor.

The piece is done on Procreate,  Apple Pencil, iPad Pro.

Picture
The Goblin Queen aka Madelyne Pryor
The Goblin Queen  from the X-Men franchise. A character which I felt has a tragic backstory. The overall mood of the piece was done while listening to lots of Creepypasta.
The piece is done
on Procreate,  Apple Pencil, iPad Pro.

Picture
Red Sonja, Dynamite Comics
I have been dreading to do a Red Sonja piece for the longest time, primarily due to the sheer amount of, haha “coins” I gotta paint. But for any pin-up aspirant, Red Sonja, along with Lady Death, Vampirella is just one of those pieces that needs to be in the deck!
The piece is done
on Procreate,  Apple Pencil, iPad Pro.

Homecoming
Based on my interpretation of Serra Angel of Magic: The Gathering.
The piece is done on Procreate,  Apple Pencil, iPad Pro.

Picture
Psylocke, X-Men, Marvel Comics
Fan Art of Psylocke. Experimented with Acrylic Pour technique for this piece. I have always been enamored with this character since I first saw he drawn by Jim Lee back in the 90's!
The piece is done on Procreate,  Apple Pencil, iPad Pro.

Picture
Magik, Illyana Rasputin, X-Men
Based on the version as seen in the New Mutants movie, my fan art of Magik is based on the face of Anya Taylor-Joy, but with a costuming choice closer resembling the comics.

Picture
Psylocke in Madripoor, X-Men
I feel that Psylocke is that quintessential painting that needs to be addressed by wannabe pin-up artists. I guess I’m logging this in as my entry. Since reading Uncanny X-Men #261 I have always been fascinated by Madripoor, based on my home, Singapore. My version is tainted slightly with a cyberpunk aesthetic.
The piece is done on Procreate,  Apple Pencil, iPad Pro.

Picture
She-Hulk, Muscle Beach II
This is my second interpretation of my favorite Marvel Comics character, She-Hulk, on Muscle Beach. I have often been told that I really like to paint "muscular women". I guess pieces like this really cement that reputation! Haha!
The piece is done on Procreate,  Apple Pencil, iPad Pro.

Picture
Mileena of Mortal Komat (Based on her costume in MK9)
I have always liked that the producers kept her face monstrous up until than. Felt the iterations of her unmasked face especially in MKX was a cop out trying to keep her “human looking”

The piece is done on Procreate,  Apple Pencil, iPad Pro.

Picture

Anuk Su Namun, The Mummy
Did a ton of detailing work for the background, but in the end I felt it would have been too busy and take emphasis away from the main subject itself, thusly made the painful decision to blur out and darken hours of painstaking work. Done using Procreate on the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil.
